IS Analysis
Computer Hardware are the physical devices used in information systems that enable the use of IS. Kean University uses PC systems and laptops for their structured and dynamic processes, Wi-Fi routers and ethernet cables are used for network connectivity. Due to the limited scope of the admissions processes the current hardware is effective in completing tasks and maintaining productivity while leaving room for scalability.
Computer software is the logic and instructions that enable the hardware to complete tasks, from a top-down view its divided into four types including server/client, operating systems and applications. Kean university uses Instagram as a social media information system for knowledge sharing and customer engagement.
Application software are programs that are general purpose such as (excel and word) and other business functions such as accounts payable.
- Some vertical applications that our company (The Kean Miron) center uses are “handshake” in which students and staff can use for connections + career services and “Canvas” which is integrated into the Miron center for academic support. These applications are solely for the higher education sector.
- Some horizontal applications that our company uses are “Microsoft office suite” for documentation, communication (outlook) and presentations (PowerPoint). Another horizontal application that our company uses is “GroupMe”, this is used for internal communication among students, staff and committee members.
- I believe the software is effective, as a student its efficient and straightforward to get to the Where I have to go with no problems.
- I believe that some new technologies can be used like (AI) “Artificial intelligence” and “Data Analytics” in with the artificial intelligence, you can have a chatbot within the Miron Center’s website or mobile app in which could answer to the students about FAQs about events, services, hours, or locations—24/7 whenever accessed. Then for “data analytics” you can use Power BI (which is also developed by Microsoft) to analyze student event participation or engagement.
The program used to construct, process, and manage databases is called a database management system, or DBMS. Room reservations and event scheduling are two important MSC features that gain from a DBMS. Meetings, events, and activities, from academic conferences to gatherings of student organizations, can be held at the student center. For the management of these reservations, a DBMS is crucial. Students, instructors, and staff can use the system to reserve spaces, verify availability, and even keep track of the resources such seat configurations or audiovisual equipment they need for their events. By avoiding conflicts and facilitating effective space utilization, this centralized scheduling system helps to eliminate double bookings and guarantees that all reservations are accurately documented.
A database application is a collection of forms, reports, queries, and application programs that facilitates users’ processing of a database. Many different database applications can process a database. The final results when student fill out the form to book a room.
